Dot's Poetry Corner

My friend Stephanie recently started a blog Psyche's Candle to share some of her original poetry in addition to poetry that she fancies. She has inspired me to share some of the stuff I keep squirreled away in my faerie journal. (Yes I have a faerie journal, It's a journal with a faerie on it)
I thought I might share some of my favorite poems with you from time to time.

This poem is by one of my favorite poets, Robert Frost.
This poem, along with six others, were turned into the Frostiana Suite.
It is a stunning piece of choral work composed by Randall Thompson.
I'll be singing this song with the Salt Lake Men's Choir on March 14th. Hint... Hint...
Please to enjoy...

Choose Something Like a Star

by Robert Frost - 1947

O Star (the fairest one in sight),
We grant your loftiness the right
To some obscurity of cloud --
It will not do to say of night,
Since dark is what brings out your light.
Some mystery becomes the proud.
But to be wholly taciturn
In your reserve is not allowed.

Say something to us we can learn
By heart and when alone repeat.
Say something! And it says "I burn."
But say with what degree of heat.
Talk Fahrenheit, talk Centigrade.
Use language we can comprehend.
Tell us what elements you blend.

It gives us strangely little aid,
But does tell something in the end.
And steadfast as Keats' Eremite,
Not even stooping from its sphere,
It asks a little of us here.
It asks of us a certain height,
So when at times the mob is swayed
To carry praise or blame too far,
We may choose something like a star
To stay our minds on and be staid.

Love, Rediscovered.

And the love of my life has returned.

Boy is it ever!
"How can one calorie taste so good?"
I don't know but it does.

I loved TaB as a kid. I remember getting it at the store as a treat. This is back when soda was sold in the glass bottles and those adorable little cardboard carrying cases.
I think I was drawn to TaB because it looked different than all the other bottles.

It had that great slim design and decrotive little white star things and that fantastic pink carrying tote. Even as a child I knew that you are what you drink and I wanted to be the most fashion forward kid on the block. In retrospect it appears that what I really wanted was to be the gayest kind on the block. Those neat bottle didn't win me any friends I'm afraid.
I got looks then and I get looks now. I was in Smith's tonight walking around with my 12-pack of TaB and I got no less than 4 weird looks from people. But I don't care. They'll never understand my love for TaB and that's fine with me.

I keep telling you...

I know in the past I've said that Sarah Jessica Parker is a horse or had horse-like tendencies. Apparently I was wrong.
Upon closer inspection I am now lead to believe that she is not a horese, but rather some sort of pig, deer or sheep. I give you exhibit A: The Cloven Hoof.

Sarah is obviously a member of the mammalian order Artiodactyla. Examples of mammals that possess this type of hoof are pigs, deer, sheep and washed up HBO Actresses.

The almost finger-like dexterity available to cloven hoofed mammals like the Mountain Goat and Sarah Jessica Parker combined with a hard outer shell and soft and flexible inner pads provide excellent traction in their precarious habitats. This would explain how she's been able to cling to an acting career when she clearly exhibits no real acting chops.
